Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you so much for your help and support from home! I am so proud of my students who I can see are working hard at home to continue their learning! We will continue this week with the 60 minute lesson plan below. Remember, all students should be reading books at home 20-30 minutes (or more if possible), in addition to our 60 minutes of assignments.
New for this week, I have added directions to two additional resources for my students to use at home!
COBB DIGITAL LIBRARY will have access to many digital books and videos that students are already familiar with, such as Brain Pop Jr., Book Flix, etc.
CLEVER has many activities linked and ready to go, including Dreambox which we are currently using for math work. Clever makes it so easy to access many resources for your child. If your child is logged in through Clever, this website takes them directly to Dreambox and much more, no downloads needed.
NEW! I would like everyone in our class to log in to FIRST IN MATH and start earning stickers and also try Learning A-Z for reading (both ready to go for you through CLEVER) as extra learning (and fun!) this week if you can.
DAILY LESSON PLAN (your child's assignments for this week, M-F):
READING: I Station online: 20 minutes daily
MATH: Dreambox online: 20 minutes daily
Other: Writing Journal 15 minutes daily
Homework, etc. @ 5 minutes (HW notebook calendar assignment) daily
This schedule meets the recommendation of 60 minutes of daily work assignments for first graders. Of course if you wish to do more with your child that would be great.
+ Please remember that all first grade students should be READING at home every day for 20-30 minutes or more. This is in addition to our 60 minutes of assigned work. We have read at home daily all year and everyone needs to continue to R E A D at home every day. This is so important to our growth as first grade readers!
ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS:
Parents, if your child is STILL IN PROGRESS on first grade sight words (reading less than 200 words at this time), it is very important to study and review sight words daily to continue to make progress. Please include SIGHT WORD PRACTICE AND STUDY after your child's 60 minutes of assignments is completed each day. The grade level standard is to read 200 or more words by early May. As we are now in the final quarter of the school year, please make sure your child is practicing daily to meet this very important goal.
In addition to these websites students can log in to Clever and Cobb Digital Library for many more resources. We are fortunate to have such a variety of resources available to us at home provided by CCSD. Please explore what you have time for, on a schedule that works for your family.
