Dear First Grade Families,
Hello again to everyone and welcome back! We will be starting a slightly revised schedule this week, with new learning assignments for Mon-Thurs (an hour each day) and flexible options for you to choose from on Friday of each week. Fridays will now be for students to complete practice to help them meet grade level expectations.
I will email a few updates to our schedule below soon, but Monday's work is ready to go: I Station, Dreambox, complete daily HW, and writing journal. The new writing journal calendar for April is in the next post titled "Learning Links." Before students write today's journal entry, they need to view the Ruby Bridges Powerpoint from our Learning Links list for April. Parents, please read and discuss this Powerpoint to or with your child before they write.
Please use the CLEVER login to access Dreambox and RAZ Kids (Learning A-Z) each week. Once you log in, look for the blue bear icon to find our class page. All the links you need are there in one place!
Please see the next post on this blog for online learning links that you will need this week including a new writing calendar, Ruby Bridges power point, and more.
If you haven't tried it yet, please join our school Skype session daily at 11:30 for a read aloud with Lewis teachers and students! It is a lot of fun! Go to the Lewis website and click on the SKYPE 11:30 session link.
DAILY LESSON PLAN ( your child's assignments for this week, April 13-17 )
Monday-Thursday schedule
READING: I Station / RAZ Kids: 20 minutes daily: I Station, M W and RAZ Kids, T TH
MATH: Dreambox: 20 minutes daily
Other: Writing Journal 15 minutes (Writing calendar) daily
Homework, etc. @ 5 minutes (HW notebook calendar) daily
Friday schedule
No new work will be given on Fridays. During Friday "flex" time, please check to make sure all weekly assignments are completed. Next, please complete your paper work practice packet that was sent home on March 13 if you have not already done so. If you are all caught up, please complete other practice today toward meeting grade level expectations...
Here are some ideas:
..............................................................................................................................................................................................
+ All students should continue to READ every day (7 days a week) for 20-30 minutes (or more) using books from home. We have read at home daily all year and everyone needs to please keep this up. This is so important to our growth as first grade readers! Don't forget to practice math facts using your math flashcards at home, too. Play the flashcard game with someone in your family!
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
All students who are still IN PROGRESS on first grade sight words (reading less than 200 words at this time), need to study and review sight words daily to continue to make progress. Please include SIGHT WORD PRACTICE after your child's 60 minutes of daily assignments is completed. Our grade level standard is to read 200 or more words by early May. Please make sure your child is practicing daily to meet this very important goal!
